The world of gaming has come a long way since the first consoles graced our presence back in the day. We are now faced with many choices: What HD TV to use, which console to buy and where is it all going go? One factor that we don’t consider is… what is going to push out the best sound for the whole setup? While many options are available, I came across the Tritton AX Pro 5.1 surround sound headset at the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 launch event.
Now you may be thinking “I have a killer sound system that wakes the neighbours”. However, what happens when you need a nice discreet way of gaming without disturbing those around you? I have tried many headsets in the past, some are clunky, others uncomfortable and some just don’t offer anything in the department of the ultimate sound experience.
The AX Pro features true 5.1 surround sound, which is not only a great sound experience while gaming, but it also offers comfort, visual appeal and noise reduction that beats any product on the market. I have had this headset for around a week now, and quite honestly, I have a tendency of blowing headphones within a few days of using them. I am surprised that these have lasted so long, which leads me the conclusion that these headsets can take a pounding.
My review process of the AX Pro has been a vigorous one. I have clocked 34 hours of gameplay, 6 hours of a little heavy metal and 8 full length DVD’s, all at ear busting volumes. The end result is a headset that is still alive and kicking, which makes me believe that the AX Pro has a “never say die” factor to it.
The one thing the AX Pro has going for it is comfort. While most headsets have a tendency to become irritating after prolonged use, the AX Pro tends to make you feel like you are not even wearing a headset.
While the AX Pro is an amazing headset. I do however have a one gripe with it… the setup can be a pain. There are so many wires, and if you don’t look at the manual you will have a hard time setting it up. I’m not one for manuals, so self setup time without viewing the manual was around 25 minutes, with the manual 8 minutes.
During setup, you will notice that this headset can be plugged into any device that features an optical audio connection. This is a phenomenal feature, as you can plug it into any device that features this port including: gaming consoles, Blu Ray players, PC audio cards and any other device that supports the optical audio connection. If my kitchen stove had an optical audio connection, it would sound epic with this headset.
The AX Pro is a comfortable, durable and reliable headset with the added benefits of great sounding True 5.1 surround sound. It can take a pounding and is possible one of the best headsets I have ever used. However, the awkward setup process can be an initial pain; although once done, you will have the ultimate sound experience.
